Francisco Coutinho's report

The Electricity Museum (Museu da Electricidade) is a cultural centre that presents the evolution of Energy with a Museum of Science and Industrial Archaeology concept, where themed and experimental exhibits live side by side with a great variety of cultural events.

Located in the Belém area, Lisbon side from the Tejo rivers at the end of the 19th century, in one of the city’s areas with the greatest concentration of historical monuments where one can find, among others, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Cultural Centre, the Tower of Belém, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, the Portuguese Presidential Palace and Museum, the Coach Museum or the Cordoaria Nacional (national rope factory).

Had open to  a Museum took place in 1990. Ten years later, the Electricity Museum’s buildings and equipment underwent a period of new rehabilitation, to reopen in 2006 fully renovated and with a new discourse and museum proposals.

Today visitors can enjoy several events (painting, sculpture, photography, concerts, etc...) as well as educational and playful spaces dealing with the energy theme, with educational games, outdoor solar power demonstrations, theatre, concerts and conferences.

The Electricity Museum is an integral part of the heritage and structure of the EDP Foundation, which belongs to the EDP Group - Energias de Portugal (Portuguese energies) that is one of the biggest energy companies in the world, now is commanded by chinises but steels being Portuguese.

In a visit with the val do rio school, we could learn more and see with our own eyes all the exposition of electricity workers, where and how they work in old times.

I couldn't go to this visit but I certely know was fantastic and everyone had fun. I already been there 3 or 4 times with other schools or family. The view is amazing and museum to. All events they make are very nice too. Maybe sometime I would like to go again.

Alex Anacleto – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

In this study trip, we learned some interesting things about electricity, as the laborers worked as the machines functioned as eg all procedures carried coal from the moment he walked into blocks when they left the oven to powder, also saw the various divisions of the museum.
I learned that Michael Faraday discovered how to produce energy by moving a magnet inside a copper coil to generate current.
In general I liked the field trip form that explained I could learn.

where we learn how the eletricity works and how we can arrange some from things we never imagened.
We learn about the old source of energy that was about burning coal, I really liked this trip because i learned a lot and i had a great time.

João Pinto – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

Museum Trip

In the study visit we have made to the Electricity Museum, learn how it was discovered and created electricity. It was a rather uneventful visit, but the conviviality was the class's visit had been a little bit tiresome and not strictly sure we were going to learn anything, but we overcame that. What I liked most about the visit was the interaction of group activities proposals were given. These visits could be worked with students, or ask where we would like to go, and make us to be the same. But gave to unwind.

Bruno Antunes – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

I went to the museum of electricity to the school, we went by train then when we were there, a guide showed us everything, where coal was burned, earl was caught and ceparado and more. The part I liked most was the initial part where we had to do small experiments.

Pedro Frade – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

On the 24th of February I went to “Museum of Electricity” in Lisbon.
We left at two o’clock and arrived at about four o’clock.
This Museum is a place dedicated to energy sources, mainly the renewable energies.
In this Museum I saw experiments about how electricity was discovered and how renewable energies work, such as: solar panels, aeolic energy and hydraulic energy.
I also learnt how electricity was produced by burning coal many years ago.
I was also into a machine which was used to burn coal and learnt the types of work people used to do with this machine.
The visit to the museum was very interesting because I learnt a lot of things about electricity, so useful in our everyday life.

Ivo Toupa – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

In this school trip to Museum of Electricity we learn how electricity work but we also see pieces of history of electricity. We also see every division in there and it was explain to us how it works. The part a like the most was the part that we meet ERNESTO, a really like that part because we could see the hard work that some man had working in a Electricity spot.
The conditions people had there it was very low, its like a dog’s life, the get the worst payment and get allot times sick’s because of the hot smoke.
But  really enjoy that trip it was very good to know that electricity nowdays it much more easier to get and I also like the way that our guide explain every part of the museum, we could see that he really knew what he was talking about.

Bruno Rijo – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

In our field trip to the Museum of Electricity, we saw this model of what was like a few years ago the central.
Boats bring coal and then the central, transform the coal in electricity, here is the picture of the model.

David Silva --- Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

So ... In this trip we visited the museum of electricity ... We have learn about the Renewable Resources like Solar energy , Wind energy  , Barrages energy ... We have learn also about what was the museum before ... It was a coal manegament and power plant where they transformed coal in energy

David Fradinho – Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

On this field trip we learn some interesting things about electricity. We saw how each division was formed, and what they did there. If I had to choose what I liked best in the field trip, I choose the part we were in the oven, because it is something unusual to see. The conditions under the workers had to work were miserable, and earned very badly, for the type of work they did. Was explained all procedures carried coal from the moment when they came into blocks when they left the oven to powder. The guide who made the visit explained everything in detail, you could see that he had knowledge of the subject.

Marcelino Almeida - Report about the school trip to the Museum of Electricity

In the school trip to the Museum of Electricity, besides learning about how it worked we also learned how energy was discovered and created. We were told that Michael Faraday discovered how to produce energy by moving a magnet inside a copper coil generating alternate current and since then, that's the basic principle to generating electricity nowadays in any part of the world. In it's whole the visit was well structured and interesting and a good change of pace to our daily routines in school.

Diogo Silva - Report about the school trip to the Museum of Ellectricity

I enjoyed the visit to the Museum of Ellectricity, In my opinion it was very interesting, funny and diferente. The guide explained the subject to us in a funny and simple way and I learned very much about the subject. The most interesting part of the school trip was the boiler of the factory, because it was an inaccecible site while it was working and we had the chance to go inside it and see how it looked like. I think the part of the factory called Hell Room was interesting, because of the conditions that the employees had to work, they didn’t had masks, it was very hot and they were sick often. With this report I conclude that the trip was interesting and as I said before it was diferente.

Ricardo Rodrigues - Report about the school trip to the Museum of Ellectricity

Museum of Electricity

The school trip to the museum of ellectricity was very interesting, because there was so much to learn about ellectricity and renewable energies. In my opinion our guide explained everything very well and he knew very much about the subject.  The most interesting and shocking part of the school trip was the ways and the conditions that the workers worked in the factory and I even saw things that I thought it was impossible such has, the hair of a guy standing up by receiving electrical current whithin is body, I found it very funny. I don’t have much more to say about the school trip, so to complete my report about it I must say it was not annoying, and the subject in question was well explained and I liked it very much.
